{"id":445,"date":"2018-03-06T04:45:44","date_gmt":"2018-03-06T04:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2018.chicago.wordcamp.org\/?page_id=445"},"modified":"2018-03-06T04:58:00","modified_gmt":"2018-03-06T04:58:00","slug":"volunteer-info","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/chicago.wordcamp.org\/2018\/volunteer-info\/","title":{"rendered":"Volunteer Info"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">All Volunteers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n    <li>Be friendly and welcoming to all attendees.<\/li>\n    <li>Have an internet-capable device (laptop, tablet, smart phone, etc.) so you can access Slack.<\/li>\n    <li>While you\u2019re volunteering:\n        <ul>\n            <li>Be online in Slack, so we can notify you of any changes or updates.<\/li>\n            <li>Wear your volunteer shirt whenever you are volunteering, so organizers and attendees can recognize you.<\/li>\n            <li>Notify organizers (via Slack) of any problems, emergencies, suspicious activity, harassment, or <a href=\"https:\/\/2018.chicago.wordcamp.org\/code-of-conduct\/\">other unacceptable behavior<\/a>.<\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n    <\/li>\n    <li>Be aware of the nearest exit if there\u2019s an emergency that requires evacuation, and help<\/li>\n    <li>Most importantly, HAVE FUN!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Registration\/Swag<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n    <li>Sort name badges to tables by last name, or special registration (speakers\/sponsors\/volunteers).<\/li>\n    <li>Keep\u00a0attendee swag gifts stocked on the swag table, and make sure attendees only take one of each item.<\/li>\n    <li>Put out directional other signage throughout the venue.<\/li>\n    <li>Check in attendees using the Attendee Check-in UI, and hand out lanyards\/badges.\n        <ul>\n            <li>The Check-in UI link will be provided to you on the day you volunteer.<\/li>\n            <li>If you can\u2019t find an attendee on the list, or if they haven\u2019t registered, send them to the Info table.<br \/><\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n    <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Room Manager<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n    <li>Make sure all room volunteers are present, and notify the room staff lead in Slack\u00a0if they aren\u2019t.<\/li>\n    <li>Make sure speakers are present 15 minutes before their talk, and notify the Speaker Wrangler lead in Slack if they aren\u2019t.<\/li>\n    <li>Track session time, and notify speakers with signs (15, 10, 5 minutes) as their time comes to a close.\n        <ul>\n            <li>You may want to ask the speaker if they\u2019d also like to be notified\u00a0a bit earlier, so they know when they need to start Q&amp;A by.<br \/><\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n    <\/li>\n    <li>Help speakers connect their laptops to the projector, and put on the lav mic for the camera.<\/li>\n    <li>Notify us in\u00a0Slack if there are any tech problems.\n        <ul>\n            <li>The venue will provide tech staff for any problems with the\u00a0projectors and in-room audio, but cameras and lav mic problems will be handled by WordCamp staff.<\/li>\n        <\/ul>\n    <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Happiness Bar<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n    <li>Be available to answer WordPress questions from attendees.<\/li>\n    <li>You\u2019re here to help! If someone asks for your card, that\u2019s okay, but please don\u2019t sell your own products or services.<\/li>\n    <li>It\u2019s okay to recommend paid products\/services, but please make sure they are 100% GPL.<\/li>\n    <li>If you don\u2019t know the answer, that\u2019s okay. Ask someone else at the table, or ask the attendee to come back later.<\/li>\n    <li>Don\u2019t let any one attendee monopolize your time, especially if there are others waiting. If they need a lot of help, you can recommend that they hire a consultant.<\/li>\n    <li>Check in on Slack\u00a0if you have any questions or concerns about the Happiness Bar or another volunteer regarding these rules.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Info Desk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n    <li>Lost &amp; Found will be located at the Info table.<\/li>\n    <li>Code of Conduct issues may be reported here.
