WordCamp Chicago Event on Facebook – WordPress in the Windy City

If you’re in my friends list on Facebook – you already got the invite.  If you’re not (and why aren’t you??) – you can join the WordCamp Chicago (‘WordPress in the Windy City”) event on Facebook and indicate that you’re planning to attend.  If we’re able to approximate the number of expected attendees are planning to attend, it will help us in a BIG way in organizing and planning.

Thanks – and have a GREAT weekend!

Still Kicking over here!

First, I want to thank Mark Ghosh and Lorelle VanFossen for mentioning WordCamp Chicago on Weblog Tools Collection and the Blog Herald over the past week – – it is very much appreciated!  Spread the word – WordCamp is coming to Chicago!

Here’s an update on where we are at currently:

  • We have officially confirmed the dates of June 6 and June 7, 2009 as the date of the event.  We are planning full day Saturday and half-day Sunday presentations from speakers on various topics.  Ticket sales and registration to open soon – most likely after the holidays.
  • We have a couple of different venue options in the works right now – – the right one will be determined and confirmed shortly, and announced here soon as we have a location you can count on – most likely after the holidays.
  • As soon as we have the venue confirmed and announced, we’ll be updating the site here with information on hotels, area attractions and transportation (i.e. how to get to where you need to be!)
  • We are currently organizing the speakers list and Brian will be updating our speakers page and event schedule as he goes.
  • We would LOVE to organize a Meet n’ Greet party/reception for Saturday night – preferably somewhere close to the venue and hotels.  When we announce the confirmed venue – we’d love to get feedback from any local Chicago folks on any recommended places to host a group of fantastic WordPress fanatics!
  • Thank you for interested parties who have emailed, commented and Twittered with interest in volunteering and sponsorships – – I will be getting in touch with you all within the next week.  Apologies for my delay in getting back to you right away –  I had …something….I needed to write before I could put my nose to the grindstone over here 😀

Thanks for your continued interest and for sticking in here with us as we continue our planning and plotting!  More updates to come!

WordCamp Chicago is ON

We decided WordCamp needed to come to the Upper MidWest of the United States – so here we are, all geared up to organize the event and bring together WordPress fans who are local to the Chicago area (and even those who aren’t, but are willing to travel!). “We” are: Brian Gardner author of the insanely popular Revolution Theme, Cory Miller of the fantastic iThemes, Wendy Piersall, CEO and founder of the popular and fast-growing SparkPlugging community and Lisa Sabin-Wilson, owner of E.Webscapes and author of WordPress For Dummies. We are all from the Chicago, or surrounding areas, and are all passionate users of WordPress.

We are still in the planning stages of the event – so the time, date and location of WordCamp Chicago is still to be determined. We are working quickly and have a pretty decent team put together to organize the event..so I suspect it will not be long before we are updating here with more specifics. Subscribe to our RSS Feed to receive updates when we make them! You can also follow us on Twitter.

We are interested in hearing from folks in the WordPress community who might be interested in speaking/presenting at the WordCamp Chicago event, or sponsoring the event to help us defray some of the costs involved in putting on a fantastic event. Contact us for more information, if you’re interested.

On a personal note, I have to say that I’m honored and feel priviledged to work with such a talented group of people for this event and I know we’re all looking forward at working hard to put on an event that everyone will enjoy and benefit from!
